Short history
BrightSmith Retreat came in to being between 2007 and 2009 as a common dream and project of Betty Rathbone (born Bright-Smith) from Norwich England and of Szabolcs Czire, a Unitarian minister and theological professor with ancestors from Enlaka.
The very first discussion came up in a parking plot during a Transylvanian trip organised by Czire for a party from Norwich. The topic was how wonderful it would be to find a place in this accelerating world where anyone who wants to slow down could withdraw and sit quietly. We shared Ghandi’s teaching that if you want to chance the world, you must start with yourself. So above all, let there be a place for ourselves, then offer it to the pastors who are guardians of peace and reflection and to others who are seeking these values.
The manual work on the construction in itself brought a great sense of peace.
We wanted to fit into the environment at Enlaka, not have an old looking “ fake” building but a suitable rustic building with small windows which would suit modern modest needs.
The house has two bedrooms, a living room, a kitchen and a bathroom , and a loft with the total surface area wood floored and panelled and a thirty foot square covered porch. There are 8 beds available and several mattresses.
